Alts are probably not REALLY against the rules as numerous people multi account or alt
Benefit of alts

-need to ask for more?

-EASY gold plunder (upwards of 400,000 from a level 70 carrying 4m)
-don't have to search around for plunders or wait for cool down (log the alt and reset it)
SKELETON KEYS
-alts can also serve as skeleton key farmers
-blitz campaigns with SILVER CHEST that can drop extra SKELETON KEYS
-UN-CLICK the "use skeleton keys to open mystery chests" to keep the skeleton keys
UNBOUND ITEMS
-it's possible that unbound items may be transferable or in later patches
